The Discovery MI Preschool is a private, non-profit, Montessori preschool and kindergarten serving children aged between 3 and 6 in our East Mountain location in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Our Montessori school offers full day and half-day preschool programs and a full day kindergarten program with a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on Dr Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. Our curriculum also draws heavily on Dr Maria Montessori’s teachings and uses Montessori school practices and materials.
Our full day program (preschool and kindergarten) runs from 8.30am until 3.00pm. We also offer a half-day preschool program in the morning (8:30am until 11:15am).
Each multiage classroom provides self and group learning in the areas of numeracy, literacy, sensorial and practical life skills. Children also learn music, art, physical education and Spanish in all our programs. We operate two classrooms with 20 children in each. Each classroom is led by a Montessori certified teacher and a certified teacher. Additional staff are also employed to ensure a ratio of 8 students to each teacher.
The Discovery MI Preschool Montessori school incorporates learning through play alongside structured learning to ensure the social, academic, physical and emotional development of each child in our school.
We believe that learning should be fun as well as challenging and that every child should have the opportunity to learn, create and grow!
Discovery MI Preschool Montessori school participates in the Child Care Subsidy Program, EITC Preschool Scholarship program, Head Start and has private scholarships available. We are anticipating some Pre-K Counts places from September and are encouraging families to register now for when those places become available. We would encourage any family wishing to know more about these to contact the school to discuss options available for subsidized tuition.
If you are interested in learning more about our programs and seeing our school, please call us to arrange a tour. At this tour, parents will learn about our philosophy, curriculum, programs and meet our lead teachers and have the opportunity to register for this upcoming school year.
